As my character lives in early medieval times and sails a Viking style long boat, I have chosen to set his lair inside a cave instead of part of a pirate ship. Within the cave I want to include stolen treasure and weapons as well as the remains of a sea monster, similar to those featured in the 16th century map Carta Marina. I also looked at the black beaches in Iceland and sea caves.
