Taking the textures I created using my scanned images, I applied them to my character in maya to see how they look in 3D. First I applied texture to her eyes and her skin. For her skin I used the mental ray fast skin shader and adjusted the settings until I was happy with the result. Using the different channels in the shader, I added detail around her eyes and freckles on her cheeks.
I used a wool/string texture for her hair, to create large stripes and tried different colours for the hair but I'm not sure which I prefer so feedback would be appreciated.
Hi Megan - maybe it's the black background, but she's reading a little bit 'dull' to me in in terms of that purple and blue combination - and then the brown shoes too - she looks a little bit too inconspicuous in terms of her colour design. Also, I think her hair is reading too hat-like, because there's a slight visual tension between the 'realism' of the pony-tails and the strong stylisation of her fringe. They're not quite sitting comfortably yet. In terms of her costume, it does seem as if you're missing some opportunities there for creating further interest, so the way the straps, pocket and turn-up all match (when maybe they shouldn't?) It also feels like she could take some over-sized stitching - repairs - on her outfit - just some other bits of business to give her greater visual pizazz. But I'd definitely look again at her overall colour - just get some more variations on here for contrast and comparison :)
