As a group we were given the time period of the 9th Century (The Dark Ages). After initial discussion we decided our story would focus on the Viking raids that occurred during this time. To begin we divided the research between ourselves to collect a large document to gain inspiration and ideas from. My focus was on Norse mythology, Gods and legends.
Having conducted our research we developed some story ideas.
1. How to defend against Vikings...
A comedy telling the story of the Viking raids from an English point of view using a stage like environment.
2. Valkyries/ Journey to Valhalla
Taking place during a Viking battle, one of the fallen is chosen by the Valkyries and makes the journey to heaven, Valhalla.
3. Dark Elves vs. Light Elves
The mythological creatures meet on mutual ground. This story would focus of the differences between the parallel character.
4. A Heroes Story
Drawing from Norse legends, such as Sigurd, or the Gods.
5. Creation of the Cosmos
Tells the Norse story of the creation of the universe from fire and ice.
6. Weapon's Story
The history of a incredible weapon, passed down through time. Potentially the legend of Sigurd's invincible sword passed to him from his father.
As a group we decided to go with our first idea.
After our first tutorial with Alan we researched further into our time period, specifically looking at areas that would relate directly to our chosen story idea. During this part of the research I took on the task of researching ballads and poetry while Shan and Jake focused on other aspects.
